What is GEOS-5?

The Goddard Earth Observing System (version 5) suite and its Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) are being developed at the GMAO to support NASA's earth science research in data analysis, observing system modeling and design, climate and weather prediction, and basic research. To learn more about GEOS-5 software, please visit the MAP GEOS-5 Software page.

For additional documentation see the GEOS-5 wiki.

This User's Guide serves as an installation and build guide for the new GEOS-5 user and as a reference for the experienced user. It is limited to GEOS-5 AGCM-only.

Quick Start

If you just need a quick set of essential commands to get, build, and run GEOS-5 AGCM, this Quick start GEOSgcm run  provides the minimum steps required to build GEOS5 Fortuna 2-5. Alternatively you can bypass all the hassle of setting up text scripts and working from the command line by using the MAPME workflow tool. (see below).

GEOS-5 Workflow

The MAPME Workflow Tool is a java-based application developed by SSSO to provide NASA modelers with a friendlier graphical interface for configuring and running their models. The GEOS-5 GCM has been tested in the prototype workflow system. Documents and discussions in that community can explain the features of the Workflow Tool and how to use it with GEOS-5 on NCCS systems.
