Installing Python Related Packages on a Mac

This document describes the step we took to install Python related packages (for scientific computing and visualization) on a Mac OS X 10.8 using MacPorts. Here are some of the commands (with root/admin privileges) we utilized:

 

 

sudo port install py-wxpython-3.0 py27-numpy py27-matplotlib
sudo port install py27-scipy py27-ipython
sudo port install py27-netcdf4
sudo port install py27-h5py
sudo port install py27-matplotlib-basemap geos
sudo port install py27-ipynb
sudo port install py27-zmq
sudo port install py27-tornado
sudo port install py27-nose
sudo port install py27-jinja2
sudo port install py27-ipython
sudo port install py27-sympy
sudo port install py27-pyhdf
sudo port install py27-mpi4py
sudo port install geos py27-pil

 

MacPorts automatically took care of any dependencies and the installation was done in the directory:

 

/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7
