strong reproducibility

I have a model that was, until recently, strongly reproducible in the various environments in which a ran it.  The model is still reproducible when running on discover using ifort 13, but is not on my new laptop.   The laptop is a new Macbook Pro (retina display) with an Intel Core i7 processor.  And I'm using the ifort 13 compiler on it.   Most, but not all FP operations are in libraries (MKL, FFTW).

The differences for a short run are in the last bit of just a handful of elements in the domain, so this does not seem likely to be a bug, but rather some subtle memory alignment issue that affects the order of operations.   I'm also going to try to revive an older ifort compiler on my laptop to see if that reverts the behavior to the desired mode.

Thoughts on strategies to enforce strong reproducibility?
