GRIB output parameter definition in LIS7

LIS Team:

As I spin up on LIS v7, I've noticed a problem associated with GRIB1 output using the new ECMWF GRIB libraries compared to the GRIB libraries in LIS6.1.  In lis.config, there are still several entries for setting the GRIB output parameters for setting the GRIB_Table, Center_ID, etc.  However, these entries are over-ridden by the settings in "arch/LIS_Grib_inc.h", where these parameters are hard-coded at compilation time.

Is there any possibility of bringing these parameter definitions back into lis.config?  If not, then we should probably remove these parameter definitions from lis.config to avoid confusion (which has bitten me in the first couple long-term runs I made with a couple different versions within NU-WRF).

Re: GRIB output parameter definition in LIS7

    Hi Jon,

Yes, I can see how this can cause a problem.  We have been removing the "Output GRIB" entries from the testcase lis.config files, but if they are left in there, a user can certainly think that something can be changed without having to re-configure/re-compile.

We moved these definitions into the configure script for a particular LIS customer.  One primary argument for moving it back into lis.config would be if an individual user would like to use the same executable, but generate GRIB datasets with different attributes.

We'll have to discuss this for the next release.
